Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) apply to your use of SongByline™, including this website and the optional Fan+ subscription (together, the “Service”). The Service is operated by Song Byline LLC (“SongByline”, “we”, “us”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

SongByline lets you search for songs, artists and playlists, see who is credited as having worked on a recording (writers, producers, engineers, musicians), and read a short narrative about it. Searching and viewing credits is free. The first paragraph of each narrative is free; the full narrative and an ad-free experience come with Fan+.

• Credits, metadata, artwork and statistics come from third-party music-data sources. They can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and we don't guarantee their accuracy.
• Narratives are written by artificial intelligence from the information available to it. They can contain mistakes, and they are not statements of fact by us or by the people they describe.
• SongByline is not an official source of credits and does not provide royalty, ownership, licensing or “splits” information. Don't rely on the Service for legal, financial, licensing or contractual decisions.
• If you see something wrong, email us at hello@songbyline.com and we'll look into it.

• What it includes: the full narrative on every song, artist and playlist, and no ads.
• Price: $3.99/month or $29.99/year, in US dollars. Applicable tax is added at checkout.
• Payment: payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
• Renewal: your subscription renews automatically each month or year, at the then-current price, until you cancel. We will tell you before a price change affects you.

Cancel anytime in the billing portal; access continues through the end of the paid period. Monthly plans are not prorated or refunded for partial months. Annual plans are refundable within 7 days of the first charge and within 7 days of each renewal charge; request by emailing hello@songbyline.com.

To open the billing portal, use “Manage subscription” on the Fan+ page; it opens Stripe's secure billing portal, where you can also update your card and see invoices.

SongByline doesn't have user accounts. Your Fan+ subscription is linked to the browser you subscribed in by a secure cookie. If you clear your cookies or use another browser or device, you may not be recognised as a subscriber there; email us and we will try to help. See our Privacy Policy for details.

The free version of the Service may show advertising provided by third-party ad networks, including Google AdSense. We don't control the ads or the advertisers. Fan+ subscribers are not shown ads.

You agree not to:

• use the Service unlawfully or to infringe anyone else's rights;
• access the Service by automated means (scraping, bulk downloading or similar) or in a way that burdens or disrupts it;
• circumvent or attempt to circumvent the paywall, rate limits or other technical protections, or share paid content in bulk;
• probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service, or interfere with its security.

The Service, including the SongByline™ name and logo, our site design and our compilation of content, belongs to Song Byline LLC or its licensors and is protected by law. You may use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

Song, artist and playlist names, artwork, recordings and related marks belong to their respective owners and are shown to help you identify them. Their appearance here doesn't mean any owner endorses or is affiliated with SongByline.

The Service relies on and links to third-party services, such as Stripe, Google and social platforms (for the share buttons). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to what they do, and we aren't responsible for them.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we don't promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that its information is accurate or complete.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Song Byline LLC and its members, managers and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim and (b) US$50. Some places don't allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

We may change the Service or these Terms. When we make a material change to the Terms we will update the “Last updated” date above, and continuing to use the Service afterwards means you accept the updated Terms. You can stop using the Service at any time (and cancel Fan+ as described above). We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree that any dispute about the Service or these Terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in the State of Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. This doesn't take away any rights you have under consumer-protection laws where you live.
